A Speaks gutter cleaning has four parts: every gutter cleared by hand, every downspout flushed to make sure it actually drains, the brackets, seams and slope checked as we go, and a straight answer on what we saw. Family owned in Woodinville since 1990, serving the Eastside and Seattle.

Step by step

What Our Gutter Cleaning Includes

Cleared by hand

Leaves, needles and debris come out of the trough by hand, end to end, with an extension pole for the long runs.

Every downspout flushed

We run water through every downspout. A gutter can look clear at the top while the downspout below it is packed.

Brackets and seams checked

Loose brackets, sagging runs, cracked seams and standing water that points to a slope problem, checked as we go.

We tell you what we saw

If something needs more than a cleaning, we tell you what we saw and what it means. We won't just clean around it.

Straight talk since 1990

Cleared by Hand, Checked for Real

While we're up there, we look over the whole run, not just the trough: loose brackets, sagging sections, cracked seams, a downspout pulling away from the house, or standing water that points to a slope problem.

A cleaning is a cleaning, not a repair. If we find something that needs fixing, we tell you what we saw and what it means, and you decide what to do. It's the same straight talk John has built Speaks on since 1990.

Gutter cleaning is also the service most often booked alongside roof moss removal, since a moss-heavy roof sheds directly into the gutters below it. When both need doing, roof and gutter cleaning in one visit makes sense.

What it costs

Gutter Cleaning Cost

A few hundred dollars for most homes

Gutter length, stories and how much has built up set the price.

A general guide, not a quote. Every job gets an exact price before we start, and the estimate is free.

What moves the price

  • Stories: two stories means taller ladder work
  • Gutter length, and how many downspouts to flush
  • Condition: years of buildup or heavy fir and maple cover
  • Access: landscaping, fences and decks

Good questions

Things People Ask John

The questions we hear most about gutters in Western Washington.

What does a gutter cleaning include?
Four things. We clear every gutter by hand, flush each downspout to make sure it actually drains, check the brackets, seams and slope as we go, and tell you what we saw before we leave.
Do you clean the downspouts too?
Yes, every one gets flushed. A gutter can look clear at the top while the downspout below it is packed, and clear at the top isn't the same as draining.
How often should gutters be cleaned in Western Washington?
Twice a year is standard for most homes here: once in late fall after leaf-drop, and once in late winter or early spring once moss and needle debris have had a season to accumulate. Homes with heavy fir or maple cover nearby sometimes need a third cleaning mid-year. Seattle Public Utilities also recommends at least twice a year.
When is the best time to clean gutters here?
Late November to mid December, once most of the leaves are down, then again in late winter or early spring. November is the wettest month around here, so clean gutters before the heavy rain do the most good.
How do I know my gutters need cleaning?
Water spilling over the edge during rain, streaking on the siding below a gutter section, or a downspout that isn't running water during a storm are the clearest signs. If you can see plant growth or standing debris in the trough from the ground, it's overdue.
What happens if gutters aren't cleaned?
The water backs up and spills over, often behind the fascia and into the roof deck or siding, or it pools at the foundation. Most people don't notice until the damage shows, and the fix gets pricier the longer it sits.
Do you fix gutters, or just clean them?
We clean and do a visual check for loose brackets, sagging sections, and slope issues. If we find something that needs repair, like a cracked seam or a downspout pulling away from the house, we'll tell you what we saw so you can decide how to handle it. We won't just clean around a problem and leave it.
What does gutter cleaning cost?
Most homes here run a few hundred dollars, depending on gutter length, stories and how much has built up. Every job gets an exact quote before we start, and the gutter cost guide covers what moves the price.
